MERLE ADAM, B.A.,Carleton University; Advanced Teacher and Examiner, Society of Russian Ballet. Ms. Adam began her studies in Ottawa with Nesta Toumine and later was a scholarship student at Balanchine's School of American Ballet. She has performed in Ballet Jazz and Folklore companies, including Radio City Music Hall in New York. Ms. Adam has taught for Ottawa University's School of Human Kinetics and for Continuing Education in the Music Department, the Carleton University Dance Program in Athletics, and for their Summer Dance Camps for children also guest teaching and choreographing for the Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Schools. She has choreographed for Orpheus Operatic Society, the Savoy Society, The International Orff Music Teachers' Conferences and for performances in conjunction with the National Arts Centre Children's Concerts. Ms. Adam has also lectured for many dance and music educators organizations. 



NAOMI ADAM-JOHSTON  is an emerging artist from Ottawa, Ontario, currently, in her 4th year at McGill University studying Social Work. Naomi has been dancing since the age of 2 at National Capital Dance Educators, and completed her intermediate exam with the Society of Russian ballet in 2014. Naomi has also trained in modern, contemporary, jazz and tap, and graduated from Canterbury Arts High School in Dance with distinction. Naomi has participated in numerous performances in both Ottawa and Montreal, including performances for the National Arts Centre and The Russian Embassy. She has showcased work at Bouge D'ici Dance Festival, MainLine Gallery, performs regularly as a member of both the Comrade Collective and Inertia Modern Dance Collective, and held the position of Artistic Director of Inertia Modern Dance Collective for 2016/2017. Eager to continue to expand her dance education, Naomi will be attending Sidra Bell New York’s Summer Module in June. She looks forward to further experimenting with choreography, videography, and diverse forms of movement and stagecraft. Naomi teaches at various locations around Ottawa and is thrilled to be returning to Dance Educators for the summer. 

headshots sonia1SHANNON BERRY was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. She is going into her second year of studies in Mechanical Engineering (Management) and Computing Technology at the University of Ottawa. She has been dancing for 14 years studying mainly at the Pickering School of Ballet in Toronto where she was taught Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Modern,Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, Acro, and Irish dancing. She alsostudied at Karpov Academy and the London School of Dance in Toronto and worked with Ambitious Movement a Toronto based Hip Hop crew. She was trained in many different Ballet techniques such as Cecchetti,RAD, and Vaganova and she successfully completed her Advanced 1 exams in both Cecchetti and RAD by the time she was 15. She was also trained in different Modern techniques such as Limon, Graham, Horton, and Cunningham. Shannon attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts from grade 7 until grade 12 where she majored in dance. In grade 11she became apart of the Hip Hop crew, Royal Rhythm and in her grade 12 year she became the captain of the another Hip Hop crew, RAW Creation. Upon graduating and beginning her studies at the University of Ottawa, she joined the GeeGees Dance Team. Shannon has taught at many studios such as, Prima Dance Academy, J'Danse Studio and the Pickering School of Ballet where she mainly taught Tap and Jazz but has also taught Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Musical Theater. Shannon continues to teach, choreograph, and perform throughout Toronto and Ottawa with different studios, teams, and companies in order to broaden her knowledge of dance.

headshots igorIGOR CHORNOVOL, Igor trained in the professional program of the Ukranian National Ballet Academy, in Kharkiv, Ukraine.  He was mentored by the elite older generation of teachers and dancers and performed many principal roles in the Classical Ballet repertoire at the Kharkiv Opera Theatre House and at the Kiev National Ballet. Igor immigrated to Canada and joined the Alberta Ballet in Calgary where, under the Artistic Direction of Jean Grandmaitre, he became a featured soloist and principal dancer. His repertoire includes: the Prince in Jean Grandmaitre's "Cinderella", the Prince in Mikko Nissenen's "Nutcracker", the Cowhand in Agnes de Mille's "Rodeo" , soloist on Emily Molnar's "Portrait of Supernatural Grace", Benvolio in Jean Grandmaitre's "Romeo and Juliet", Dream Armand in Val Caniparoli's "Lady of the Camelias" , soloist in Jean Grandmaitre's collaboration with Joni Mitchel "Dancing Joni and other Works: The Fiddle and the Drum", George Balanchine's " Who Cares" , Edmund Stripe's "Unquiet Night" and Demetrius in Christopher Wheeldon's "Midsummer Night's Dream".

headshots igorALEX FORSTER, Alex was born and raised in London England . His first job was at the age of 12 working with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber on a show called Young Apollo, he went on to train at the prestigious Arts Educational School in London where he was awarded the Andrew Lloyd Webber scholarship for Musical Theatre. Durinig his time at college Alex performed at the Royal Variety Performance and the Brit Awards working for Arlene Phillips choreographer of Annie the movie. After graduating Alex went straight into work, his first job was Sir Andrew Lloyd Webbers 'Sunset Boulevard', working with Sir Trevor Nunn and the legendary Bob Avion. Alex was the youngest cast member in the history of the show. His next show was 'Joseph and His Aamazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' again teaming up with Andrew Lloyd Webber and again becoming the youngest person in the history of the show to play the title role of Joseph on stage. Many shows followed in the heart of Londons WEST END including 'Les Miserables' 'RENT' and 'WE WILL ROCK YOU' the 'QUEEN' musical, which he made his home for 6 years, performing and acting as Dance Captain working alongside Ben Elton, the legendary Brian May and reunited again and assisting Arlene Phillips. Alex has taught at many of the top Performing Arts colleges in the UK including RADA, BRISTOL OLD VIC, GUILDHALL, PINEAPPLE STUDIOS and was Head Of Dance at the American Musical Theatre Academy of London for 5 years.

headshots phillip1JULIA NORRIS has been dancing since she was 3 years old — ballet, jazz and competitive Irish dance. She has always studied at Dance Educators, starting with Creative movement, then Ballet with Merle Adam, where she achieved her Elementary designation from the Society of Russian Ballet. Since then, Julia has kept her skills fresh by taking classes with Igor Chornovol and Sonia Lismer. In the world of competitive Irish dance, Julia had much success, achieving Preliminary level before her retirement two years ago. Over the past 8 years, she has worked as a teaching assistant and teacher of both Ballet and Irish dance, and is looking forward to sharing her love of dance at Dance Educators this year. In addition to teaching dance, Julia is a full-time student at Ottawa University, working towards her undergraduate degree in Psychology.

headshots micahMICAH STEFFLER, B.A., studied Ballet for ten and ISTD Modern Dance for fifteen years. She holds her RAD Intermediate Ballet Certificate and Advanced Modern Dance Certificate. Micah taught Ballet, Modern and Jazz at the Lindsay Dance Studio before moving to Ottawa where she taught Creative Movement at Dance Educators.

headshots aisel1AISEL WARDALE, Administrator.  Aisel has combined an early education in the Arts with advanced studies in Engineering and Business Administration. She is a graduate of the state music school in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She holds a Bachelor's Degree In Electrical Engineering from Kazakh Technical University, and MBA from the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research.  Aisel worked at Schlumberger and Siemens companies. Currently, she works as a Finance Officer in Health Services at Ottawa University, and as the Administrator at Dance Educators.
